Summary
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Peripheral stem cell transplantation may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs to kill more tumor cells. Chemotherapy, given before and after surgery, followed by peripheral stem cell transplantation may be an effective treatment for metastatic neuroblastoma. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of chemotherapy, given before and after surgery, followed by peripheral stem cell transplantation in treating patients who have metastatic neuroblastoma.Phase:
