Inclusion criteria

• patients scheduled to undergo elective lumbar spinal surgery Exclusion criteria

• known or predicted difficult airway

• neuromuscular diseases

• hepatic or renal dysfunction

• diseases or anatomical abnormalities in the neck, larynx, or pharynx

• requirement for postoperative mechanical ventilation
